What if you could get paid to take a walk, score a gym membership for less than the cost of a latte, or even have meals delivered to your door—all without spending an extra dime? These hidden health insurance benefits are already tucked inside your plan. The catch? Most people have no idea they exist. From cash rewards and free telehealth visits to Medicare perks like nutrition counseling and medical equipment coverage, you’re likely sitting on hundreds of dollars in untapped savings. Here’s exactly how to find them and start cashing in today.

Nab freebies and bonuses

Chances are, your plan includes services that help you stay in tip-top shape and trim costs. You can usually find them by logging into your online account, but perks may also be in a separate wellness app, says Louise Norris, a health policy analyst for HealthInsurance.org. Here are a few of the most common:

Cash rewards

You could earn money or gift card credits for many healthy habits, like getting your annual

physical or walking more. The tricky part is that you may need to activate an app to track and claim your earned points, says Norris.

Exercise discounts

Some insurers partner with gyms to give lower rates, says Norris. For example, numerous Blue Cross Blue Shield plans provide access to thousands of gyms and video instruction through memberships starting at just $19 a month.

Virtual visits

A growing number of insurers offer low-cost or no-cost telehealth appointments. While some focus on nonemergency issues, others cover additional services like mental health therapy or chronic condition check-ins.

Make the most of Medicare

This federal health program covers more than many realize, says Danielle Kunkle Roberts, founding partner of BoomerBenefits.com and author of 10 Costly Medicare Mistakes You Can’t Afford to Make. See the full list of benefits at Medicare.gov/coverage.

Free doctor visits

“Medicare offers preventive services at a $0 copay, such as the Welcome to Medicare checkup and Annual Wellness Visit,” says Roberts. Providers screen for cognitive changes, depression and more. The goal is to help clinicians spot potential issues early when they’re easier to manage.

Feel-good extras

When you need more than a routine doctor appointment, Medicare can help. It gives you access to programs that support your wellbeing, such as nutrition counseling and acupuncture for certain conditions, shares Roberts.

Medical equipment

“This includes hospital beds, scooters, walkers or CPAP supplies,” she says. After you meet the Part B deductible, you typically pay 20 percent.

Tap into Medicare Advantage

The federal government pays Medicare Advantage plans to deliver services to Medicare beneficiaries, which means some unexpected add-ons:

Drugstore dollars

“This is coverage up to a certain dollar limit, usually per quarter, for products like vitamins, minerals, cold and flu aids and pain medicines,” reveals Roberts.

Drivers and meal deliveries

“Many plans offer rides to doctors’ offices or pharmacies,” says Roberts. They may also provide home-delivered

prepared food after a hospital stay.

Vision and dental coverage

Root canals, eyeglasses and prescription hearing aids are pricier than ever. But you might have a policy that covers a portion or all of those out-of-pocket costs.
