Netflix Quietly Adding Brand New Crime Thriller 'The Witness' Next Month
Netflix has an ever-expanding catalog of new content, and this summer is going to be no different. In June, the streamer will be debuting its latest true crime thriller, The Witness.
This gritty drama will tell the real-life story of Rachel Nickell, a British woman who was stabbed to death in London in 1992. The story made national news at the time, sparking a heated debate about the rising dangers of knife crime in the United Kingdom.
The show will be told from the perspective of Rachel's partner, André Hanscombe, and their son Alex, who was the only person to witness the attack. Rather than focusing on the crime itself, Netflix's upcoming thriller will follow the aftermatch of Rachel's death, exploring how the attack shaped both a national conversation and one family's future.
"As André becomes a single parent overnight, he is forced to navigate unimaginable grief, an unscrupulous media frenzy, and an increasingly desperate police investigation-all while making the welfare of his traumatized son his absolute priority." (via What's On Netflix)
Written and created by Rob Williams, the series will consist of three episodes-all of which will be available to stream on Netflix globally from June 6.
The Witness stars Jordan Bolger as Andre Hanscombe, with James Bradshaw, James Dryden, Kevin Eldon, Max Fincham, and Kerry Godliman in supporting roles. BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Alex Winckler will serve as series director.
In addition to this intense crime drama, Netflix will also be releasing a companion documentary on the same day to give audiences a more in-depth explanation of Rachel Nickell's tragic death-and the media circus that came along with it.
The Murder of Rachel Nickell is directed by BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Lucy Bowden, and explores how the highly-publicized investigation of Nickell's death ultimately led to the incarceration of the wrong man. The documantary will blend archive footage with fresh interviews with Nickell's family members and forensic experts who worked on the case.
Both The Witness and The Murder of Rachel Nickell will be available to stream in the United States and around the world on June 6, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
