Is it legal to go nude on MS Coast beaches? Here’s what the law says
Swimsuits seem to be smaller and smaller every year, with little to no fabric around the chest and bum. So, what would be the harm in going completely nude at the beach, right?
Well, before you go skinny dipping on Mississippi Coast beaches or sun bathing in your birthday suit, here’s what to know:
Is it legal to go nude on Mississippi beaches?
No, public nudity is not allowed on Mississippi beaches or in any public place in the state.
According to the law, it is illegal to display private parts “in any public place, or in any place where others are present.”
So, even though people are in swimsuits that seem to leave little to nothing to the imagination, it is still illegal to intentionally go nude at the beach or anywhere for that matter.
Those who violate this law could face jail time or be fined up to $5,000, depending on what number offense it is.
Here are the specific state penalties for breaking public indecency laws:
First offense: fine of $500 or six months of jail time
Second offense within five years: guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not more than $1,000 or one year in jail
Third and subsequent offenses within five years: guilty of a felony and shall be punished by a fine of not more than $5,000 or five years of jail time in the State Penitentiary, or both
So, where can you go nude?
Well, it may be pretty obvious, but you can go skinny dipping or bask in the nude on your own private property. In addition, there are a couple of nudist beaches and resorts in the state that are totally clothes optional.
