South Mississippi continues to see new restaurants open every week. But it’s seeing restaurants close, too.

Sunday, May 17 is the last day for Tasty Pot at 3179 Mallet Road in D’Iberville. The owners announced the closing on their website, “After much thought and some difficult conversations.”

The restaurant, part of a national chain, opened in September 2023 near the Grand Theater in D’Iberville and built individual and authentic Taiwanese hotpots for each customer, layering choices of seafood, meat or other options, spices, vegetables and broth.

The message thanked customers for supporting a small family business. The company also closed Quickly 2 restaurant in downtown Ocean Springs in February.

Emmanuel Albert and his family also operate Quickly Asian Fusion Cafe, Emmay Mochi Donuts, Desserts and More and the connecting Hero Claw Kingdom in D’Iberville. More recently they opened the adjacent Chamay Asian Street Food, South Mississippi’s first dim sum cuisine restaurant, which features Vietnamese noodle soups, Asian inspired dishes and seafood.

They’re located in the busy area in D’Iberville where Lamey Bridge Road meets Sangani Boulevard and Mallet Road.

His willingness to bring new cuisines to South Mississippi has gained loyal customers and at times been a test of endurance.

“These past few years have been challenging for many small businesses, and rising costs have made it difficult to continue.,” the online message said.

Customers have one last chance to dip into a Tasty Pot this weekend before the doors close.
