Two neighboring restaurants – one seafood and one fast food – close in Ocean Springs
Restaurants keep opening in Ocean Springs, but two restaurants along a short stretch of U.S. 90 have closed.
The Shrimp Basket at 1108 Bienville Blvd. is locked and no longer on the list of Shrimp Basket restaurants. The chain started in Gulf Shores, Alabama in 1993 and has spread from Florida to Alabama and into South Mississippi.
Calls to the company for information were not immediately returned.
The Shrimp Basket on U.S. 49 in Gulfport near Airport Road opened about a decade before the Ocean Springs location and is still in business.
The Ocean Springs location of The Shrimp Basket long was home to Mellow Mushroom pizza. The shrimp restaurant opened in late 2021 after months of renovations, turning it from a pizza and beer restaurant that followed Mellow Mushroom into a seafood eatery complete with outdoor dining space.
The Shrimp Basket had a large menu, with the most popular dishes marked with red stars.
Just down the street at 1202 Bienville Blvd., the Arby’s restaurant is temporarily closed according to an online post. It’s been closed on and off for months, or was drive-up only as employees told customers they didn’t have enough staff to open the dining room.
A sign indicated the restaurant is undergoing renovations. The Arby’s restaurant locator marks it as closed.
While these two restaurants are closed, across the street a Salad Station restaurant is about to open in the former Wendy’s restaurant at 1407 Bienville Blvd.
