I’m new to the Mississippi Coast and am a Seattle native and got here by way of Miami.

One of the things I miss the most in big cities are chain restaurants that aren’t yet in the Gulfport-Biloxi metro area.

The one I miss the most is Chipotle, but not far behind is the sandwich shop Jersey Mike’s.

I am a big fan of sub sandwiches. I frequently make them at home and I am always on the lookout for a restaurant offering a good sub.

This being said, I am not a fan of most sandwich chains, I often find them to be lifeless and bland, but Jersey Mike’s is the exception.

They offer cold and hot sandwiches with meats piled high on fresh bread and a simple selection of vegetables.

Needless to say, I’m thrilled that the Coast is getting two Jersey Mike’s locations, one in D’Iberville and the other in Gulfport.

Here’s everything you need to know, including how and what to order.

Pick hot or cold sub, bread, toppings at Jersey Mike’s

When ordering your first choice is a hot or cold sub.

The hot sandwiches are good in their own respect, they are basic cheese steak style sandwiches grilled to order and filled with onions and peppers if you wish, but to me the standout has always been the cold subs.

After choosing hot or cold, you choose your bread, they offer white, wheat or rosemary Parmesan, the latter being my preferred choice.

The cold sandwich options range from turkey and bacon to my personal favorite the original Italian.

It comes piled high with provolone, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami and pepperoni.

Get your sandwich the ‘Mike’s Way’

Now what makes Jersey Mike’s unique is the next step.

You have the choice to get the sandwich “Mike’s Way.”

Mike’s Way doesn’t cost anything extra. It comes with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and — most importantly — a splash of an oil and vinegar blend with spices.

It sounds a little odd, but the olive oil and vinegar give the sandwiches a unique and delicious flavor.

The first Jersey Mike’s along the Coast will be opening June 1 at The Promenade in D’Ilberville next to Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. See you there.
