Two Asian restaurants, Coast coffee shop cited by health department
It was a good start to the year for restaurant inspections in South Mississippi, but now eight restaurants have been cited by the Mississippi Health Department for critical violations — one of them failing twice.
On Monday, the Health Department cited three Coast restaurants. They include:
Soc Trang Asian Restaurant, 10090 Central Ave A, D’Iberville, got its first C after being inspected Jan. 22 for a permit renewal. The inspector found eight violations, two of them corrected during the inspection.
A follow-up inspection Monday showed the restaurant still did not have a certified manager, along with three other violations that resulted in another C. The restaurant was cited for not having a management awareness policy present, for improper use of report restriction exclusion and for not having food contact surface cleaned and sanitized.
Soc Trang’s prior violations include:
- Not having a certified manager
- Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
- Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized
- Improper date marking and disposition
- Not having plumbing installed with proper backflow devices
- Not having last inspection report posted
Corrected during the prior inspection were food separated and protected, and not having toilet facilities properly constructed, supplied and cleaned.
Another D’Iberville restaurant, Samurai at 3516 Sangani Blvd., D’Iberville, was inspected Monday for a permit. It was cited, and a consumer advisory was provided, for raw or undercooked foods. Corrected during the inspection was “time as public health control procedures records.” This is the restaurant’s first C since records are provided dating back to 2017.
Southern Grounds Coffeehouse at 9138 Carl Leggett Road, Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection Monday and was found to be out of compliance for food contact surface cleaned and sanitized, a repeat offense. Corrected was food separated and protected. This is the first C of three inspections, starting in January 2019.
Restaurants and other food service establishments are rated A if they pass the Health Department inspection, B if violations are corrected during the inspection, and C if the violations are critical.
