Brick and Spoon hasn’t been on the Coast that long, barely five months, but it has already earned a loyal local following.

In fact, Travel and Leisure Magazine has ranked the Southeast chain as one of its top 10 breakfasts in the U.S., that’s pretty impressive.

I was fortunate enough to bump into co-owner Kerri Paul on my visit, and got the high-energy tour. But that is just the way Kerri is, and I got the same vibe from the restaurant. The atmosphere is modern, but relaxed, with lots of glass, wood trim, but all the while comfortable and a good, friendly buzz, too.

The menu is definitely Creole and Southern, but it is one of the most creative menus I have seen in quite a while. Remember, Brick and Spoon is all about breakfast and lunch, it closes at 2 p.m.

I knew this was a very cool place when I saw breakfast tacos on the menu, then I spotted Shrimp and Tasso Mac-n-Cheese, followed by a Grown Up Grilled Cheese, with smoked Gouda and Monterey Jack cheese, a fried egg and bacon with a spring mix, all on a sourdough bread. Wow! I told you this menu was creative. This is my kind of place.

Kerri told me that it’s all about comfort food, and a second look at the menu proved her right: Bananas Foster French Toast, a Cali Burger, with pecan smoked bacon, avocado, pepper jack cheese and housemade ailoi and Bayou Fresh Catch with grilled fish over grit cakes, Bayou shrimp topping and asparagus. See what I mean?

There are also cocktails (including Irish coffee!), wines and, perhaps one of the most interesting options, Bloody Marys with more than 50 options. There is a special menu just for the Bloody Marys, like a sushi menu, where you check off what you want. The options include 12 vodka choices, pickled green beans, jalapenos, asparagus, eight herbs and seasonings, including Caribbean jerk and Sriracha, and four kinds of cheese, smoked sausage, bacon, tasso, and tasso deviled eggs. What else could you possibly add?

I am pretty surefooted when it comes to menu selections, but Brick and Spoon put me off. How in the world can I decide when there are so many dishes that caught my eye?

There is the Killer Creole Omelet with shrimp, tasso, onions, red and green bell peppers, cheddar jack cheese and more of that lovely hollandaise sauce, Shrimp and Crab Pasta, and a Shrimp and Avocado Sandwich. I love this place!

Brick and Spoon also offers delivery through the Waitr app, take out, and special events after hours, so now you know where to have that office party or birthday event.
