New mini golf course coming to Beach Boulevard adds more family fun on the Biloxi Strip
An 18-hole mini golf course will open in a few months on the Biloxi Strip, right along U.S. 90 at Finishline Performance Karting.
The course will be built at the southern end of what was the Slippers Sam site before Hurricane Katrina destroyed the waterslides there and the putt-putt golf courses along the Strip.
The L-shaped course will be carved out between the race car track and Beach Boulevard, with a portion of the course extending along Veterans Avenue.
Harris Miniature Golf, which has designed and built more than 800 courses worldwide over the last 50 years, will build the course complete with water features and bridges to cross that will add to the experience.
A decorative water tank will be a centerpiece of the course at 1782 Beach Blvd. Instead of the dinosaurs and other characters that drew visitors off the highway to play golf before Katrina, this course will use palms and lots of landscaping to make it an attractive attraction, said Craig Forshee, general manager.
A snowball stand will be nearby for players to cool off after the game.
Work on the course will start right after Cruisin’ The Coast ends, project engineer Freddie Fountain told Biloxi Development Committee.
Once the site preparation is complete, construction of the course will take about five weeks, he said.
The course won’t sit waiting until spring break to open.
“We’ll open it this winter,” Forshee said.
This addition of the mini golf follows a $2 million expansion last year that added a free fall ride and twin ziplines that zoom over the track. Finishline has a second race car track behind the ticket building and arcade.
