Finishline in Biloxi opens zip lines, 80-foot free fall in $2 million expansion

A zip line at the beach is open in Biloxi ahead of the summer tourist season.

The new attractions are at Finishline Performance Karting on Beach Boulevard and owner Joey Spear says it is part of a $2 million expansion.

One zip line starts at the Finishline ticket building and arcade, said general manager Craig Foreshee. The adventure begins 100 feet in the air, he said, and riders won’t go alone.

“They get to ride side by side,” he said, on twin zip lines that aren’t connected. And riders will be looking out at the Mississippi Sound and Gulf of Mexico as they zip 800 feet from the building toward Beach Boulevard.

“It’s also going over the track where go-karts are running,” he said.

A second zip line provides another exhilarating ride back over the track to the building, he said.

Forshee said the company that installs the equipment goes all over the world setting up zip lines and estimated it would take about 60 days to build.

Thrill seekers who want more adventure can ride the Powerfan — an 80-foot free fall ride that Forshee says feels like falling out of a window. But this plummet has a gentle stop.

These new attractions will give people who are waiting in line for a turn to race go-karts another experience, he said.

Finishline opened in 2018 at 1782 Beach Boulevard on the Biloxi strip near Restaurant Row. It was the site of the former Slippery Sam, a waterpark that was there for 28 years before Hurricane Katrina washed it away in 2005.

The building has an arcade and concession area on the first floor and a room upstairs for kids’ parties and corporate events with views of the two tracks and the water,

Junior karts for novice drivers go up to 35 mph and adult karts for more experienced driver can race through along the straight portions of the track at up to 50 mph.
