Bay's Jeff Hopgood steps down to take assistant position at Hancock
Long-time Bay High football coach Jeff Hopgood has accepted an assistant position on Rocky Gaudin's staff at nearby Hancock High School.
Hopgood, who has coached at Bay High since 2009, was approved by Hancock's school board Tuesday night.
"We had an available assistant position and at Hancock we try to get the best person, coach and teacher available," HHS athletics director Jamie Sisco said. "Jeff Hopgood fits all three of those. His wife and kids are already in our school district so it was a natural fit. We're exited to have Jeff become a member of our staff at Hancock."
During his tenure at Bay, Hopgood posted a 35-38 overall record. Hopgood's best season with the Tigers came in 2012, when Bay reached the third round of the playoffs to cap a 10-win campaign.
Last season, the Tigers were 4-6.
No. 5
The vacancy at Bay marks the fifth on the Coast this year.
Taylorsville's Matt Caldwell was recently hired at George County, while D'Iberville, West Harrison and Stone are all currently vacant.
