Sun Herald unveils the 2015-16 All-South Mississippi Boys Soccer Team
Once again South Mississippi's soccer contingent was full of talent in the 2015-16 season. Four boys teams ended up playing for state championships, with three bringing home titles.
This year's Sun Herald All-South Mississippi Boys Soccer Team reflects the wide array of skill on the Coast with some representatives heading off to play for Division I programs and at the junior college ranks, while others are still sifting through their offers.
South Mississippi was home to some of the best goalkeepers in the region in Owen Betz (St. Stanislaus) and Travis Harper (Ocean Springs).
Working from the back forward, defenders like Caleb Counselman (Pass Christian), Koray Easterling (Biloxi) and Case Sloan (Stone) were their keepers' best friends.
Midfielders Dustin Bosch (St. Stanislaus) and Josh Penton (Gautier) helped set the pace their teams.
This year proved to be an offensive year in South Mississippi. A number of strikers -- guys like Jeff Bruni Jr. (Gulfport), Tylor Davis (West Harrison), Michael Escobar (St. Patrick), Hayden Hamm (Pascagoula), Marcus Kennedy (Biloxi), Ethan Loftin (Bay), Eiland Stebly (St. Patrick), Jon Taylor (Stone) and Sun Herald Player of the Year Steven Gallagher (Ocean Springs) -- kept the opposing keepers on alert with their ability to seemingly score at will from anywhere on the pitch.
After helping to guide his team to a third straight Class 4A State Championship, St. Stanislaus' Ryan Joiner was named Coach of the Year.
