Report: Florida OC Nussmeier pulls out of Southern Miss search
Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will apparently not be the next head football coach at Southern Miss.
Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports reported Saturday morning that Nussmeier has decided to stay at Florida.
Nussmeier and Alcorn State head coach Jay Hopson were the two names most often tied to the USM job over the last 48 hours, but Nussmeier was assumed by many to be the top choice.
Southern Miss defensive coordinator David Duggan also interviewed for the job on Monday, but where he ranks on the list of athletic director Bill McGillis is unclear at the moment.
TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham, North Carolina associate head coach/co-offensive coordinator Chris Kapilovic, Ole Miss co-offensive coordinator Matt Luke, Middle Tennessee defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix and Houston offensive coordinator Major Applewhite have also been mentioned in relation to the USM job.
Todd Monken stepped down at USM head coach on Sunday to become the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
