Authorities: Vancleave teen lied about being shot by intruder
JACKSON COUNTY -- A Vancleave teen has admitted he lied to authorities when he said he was shot with his father's gun after returning home from church and surprising an intruder the evening of Oct. 25, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said.
The 17-year-old could now face a felony charge of false reporting of a crime because investigators determined the teen had accidentally shot himself with his father's gun and then tried to cover it up with the report to police.
The teen had told deputies he was shot at his home on the 2500 block of Carter Homestead Road when he surprised an intruder, grabbed his father's gun and was shot during a struggle with the suspect.
