Coast couple loses 6 dogs in Easter morning fire, officials say

A Saucier couple escaped a fire at their home Easter Sunday, but six of their eight dogs died in the blaze on J. Preston Road, according to Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan.

The couple woke up to flames in their mobile home at 2:30 a.m. Sunday and managed to get out with two of their pets before heavy smoke and heat overcame them, Sullivan said.

Harrison County and D’Iberville firefighter were among those to respond to the scene.

Paramedics with American Medical Response and other first responders treated one person on the scene. No one was hospitalized as a result of the fire.

The fire is under investigation.
