Beachfront home destroyed, another damaged in Bay St. Louis fire
BAY ST. LOUIS -- Two firefighters sustained minor injures Saturday morning while battling a blaze on the 500 block of North Beach Boulevard that destroyed one home and damaged the neighboring house, Fire Chief Pam San Fillipo said.
Bay St. Louis crews, along with help from fire crews in Waveland and Pass Christian, responded to 506 North Beach Boulevard around 5 a.m.
Upon arrival, Fillipo said the first house was already engulfed in flames. The wind helped spread the fire to the neighboring home, she said.
"The first house was basically a loss, so the objective was to keep the second house from burning," she said.
Fire crews got into the second home and contained the blaze to the first floor within an hour, Fillipo said.
"The second house has heavy smoke damage throughout the house," she said.
Both houses were unoccupied at the time of the fires.
Fillipo said two firefighters were treated on the scene by American Medical Response for minor injures sustained while extinguishing the fire.
One firefighter gashed his hand open, and other was hit by a power line.
The fires were contained by 10 a.m. Saturday, and Fillipo said crews were still on scene putting out hot spots.
What caused the blaze is still under investigation, she said.
Call right about 5 a.m. for a house fully involved in fire when the guys got here.
