Multiple homes caught fire Saturday night in the Jourdan River Shores community off Mississippi 603 in Kiln, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said on Facebook.

Fire crews are at the scene trying to contain the blaze. It’s not clear how many houses have caught fire.

All lanes of traffic are blocked on the highway from Texas Flat Road to Pontiac Drive.

That portion of the roadway is expected to be closed for several hours, the sheriff’s department said in their post at 10:15 p.m.

The Facebook post did not say if there were any injuries or if anyone was home at the time of the fire.

The houses affected are along the highway, according to Hancock County residents who posted photos of the blaze to social media.

The waterfront area is home to full-time Mississippi Coast residents, but many houses in the community are used as vacation homes or second homes.
