One person died Saturday morning after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 in Biloxi.

At 5:48 a..m, Biloxi police responded to the accident at the beach highway’s intersection with St. Charles Street.

Authorities said a vehicle was eastbound on U.S. 90 when it struck a curb, crossed the median and entered the westbound lane.

The vehicle then struck a westbound vehicle, continued eastbound in the westbound lane at high speed and hit a light pole, ultimately stopping after striking a large Oak tree at St. George Avenue and Beach Boulevard.

The Biloxi Fire Department had to extricate the driver from the vehicle. That driver, Oscar Packer Jr., 49, of Mobile, died at the scene due to blunt force trauma.

The second vehicle had two people in it that suffered minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital.

An investigation is ongoing.
