Two dead after house fires in Jourdan River Shores
Two people died Saturday night after multiple homes caught fire in the Jourdan River Shores community off Mississippi 603 in Kiln.
Hancock County Coroner Jeff Hair confirmed the deaths to the Sun Herald, but said he was not yet ready to release the identities.
The fires caused traffic delays in the Kiln. All lanes of traffic were blocked on the highway from Texas Flat Road to Pontiac Drive for much of the night, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said on Facebook early Sunday that one lane had reopened.
Fire crews were called to the scene to contain the blazes. The houses affected were along the highway, according to Hancock County residents who posted photos of the blaze to social media.
The waterfront area is home to full-time Mississippi Coast residents, but many houses in the community are used as vacation homes or second homes.
The Sun Herald will update this story when more information is available.
