Coast casinos roll a 4 percent increase in revenue for May
Coast casino revenue topped $100 million in May for the fourth time in five months this year.
The 12 Coast casinos posted a win of $104 million in May, a 4 percent increase from the $100 million won in May 2015, according to the Mississippi Department of Revenue.
South Mississippi had 11 casinos a year ago. Scarlet Pearl opened in December in D’Iberville.
This was the highest May total for casinos in South Mississippi since 2008, when gross casino revenue was $107 million.
Year to date the Coast casinos are $26 million ahead of this time last year.
The river casinos, which posted a slight increase in casino revenue in April, continued to see competition erode its casino revenue by 14 percent in May.
That decline dropped revenue for the state down 4 percent for the month.
