Gas station fire quelled in Jackson County

A gas pump at Broome's Big B gas station on Washington Avenue caught fire Saturday at about 2:15 p.m.

Employees at the gas station said the fire was put out.

Jackson County Sheriff Office officials said north Washington Avenue reopened to through traffic after being closed for about 45 minutes due to responders working the fire.

Capt. James Sears said there were minimal injuries after a pump and two cars caught fire.

"We aren't exactly sure how the fire was started just yet," he said. "Variables such as it being intentional or not are being looked at."

Sears said Fort Bayou Fire Department arrived on the scene quickly and managed to put out the fire without it spreading to other pumps.
