USM football gets verbal commitment from safety

Safety Paxton Schrimsher of Athens, Ala., announced Tuesday on Twitter that he has verbally committed to Southern Miss.

Schrimsher is a 6-foot-3, 217-pound safety and one of the more highly rated commitments so far for the Golden Eagles. He is rated a three-star prospect by GoldenEaglePride.com.

He could easily shift to linebacker at that size.

Schrimsher picks USM over UAB, Memphis, Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee and South Alabama.

USM has 13 verbal commitments so far, including a couple of local prospects in Gulfport receiver Jonathan Nance and Pascagoula defensive tackle Jauan Collins.
