Resurrection Catholic earned a crucial 12-7 victory over Salem Friday night in Pascagoula to start competition in Region 4-1A.
The game was a defensive battle with all scoring coming in the first half. Resurrection's Michael Gatschet ended the game with an interception late in the fourth quarter.
Salem got on the board first with a touchdown, but the Resurrection defense did a good job of stepping up in the red zone the rest of the way.
“It was special,” Resurrection head coach Scott Sisson said. “I could tell our kids left it all out on the field. When we subbed somebody in, they would come in and make a play. It was a total team effort. Salem was a very good team.”
Larry Sisson provided both of Resurrection's scores on a 57-yard touchdown toss to Darius Kennedy and a 76-yard pass to Justice Sharp.
Sisson was three-of-six passing for 148 yards and ran nine times for 100 yards.
Resurrection improved to 3-0 with the victory.
