USM's Davis named first-team All-Conference USA

Southern Miss senior forward Dwayne Davis was named Monday to the All-Conference USA first team, serving as the only Golden Eagle to be honored.

Davis has just one year of eligibility at USM and he has made the best of it by leading the team in scoring with an average of 15.9 points a game.

He enters this week's Conference USA Tournament as arguably the hottest player in the league, scoring a combined 69 points over two games last week.

Davis, a Philadelphia, Pa., native, sat out last year at USM while he worked to gain eligibility after transferring in from Midland (Texas) Community College.

USM (23-8) takes on the winner of UAB-SMU at noon on Thursday in the Conference USA Tournament.
