With two weeks remaining in the regular season, there will be a scramble to reach bowl eligibility for a group of four Conference USA teams in search of a sixth win.
Southern Miss (5-5), UTSA (5-5), Charlotte (4-6) and North Texas (4-6) are all still alive as C-USA seeks to fulfill its five bowl tie-ins. With USM playing at North Texas Saturday and Charlotte traveling to UTSA in the season finale, two teams should be eliminated from contention over the next two weeks.
I see USM barely pulling out a win Saturday over a banged up North Texas squad and UTSA should handle Charlotte at the Alamodome.
Four C-USA teams are already bowl eligible: Western Kentucky (8-3), Old Dominion (7-3), Middle Tennessee (6-4) and Louisiana Tech (8-3).
