Exaggerator, ridden by Acadiana native Keith Desormeaux, made a late charge, but in the end the Kentucky Derby finished as it was expected: Undefeated Nyquist ran away from the field.

The two horses belonging to New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson didn't factor much into the race. Mo Tom finished eighth at 10 lengths back, and Tom's Ready finished 12th at 15.5 lengths back.

Tom's Ready held toward the front of the pack for most of the race, but was never a threat to win and fell back late in the race.

Mo Tom, who came in at 25-1 odds ran out of Gate No. 4, and Tom's Ready (48-1 odds) ran from No. 12.
