WHAT'S COMING UP
No racing today, Easter. Racing resumes Wednesday when fillies and mares four years old and up will race in the $200,000 Vinery Madison Stakes at 7 furlongs.
FINAL FURLONG
Garrett Gomez rode four winners on this second day of the spring meet.
Winners broke the 7-furlong course record for Polytrack yesterday -- twice. The first time the record fell was in the fourth race, when Divine Park finished in 1:21.17. The record had been 1:21.50. It fell again in the eighth race, the Lafayette Stakes, when Carnacks Choice won in 1:21.05.
Despite the cold temperatures and snow Friday, attendance of 16,587 was the second-highest for a Friday opening in the spring. Part of the attendance was boosted by nearly 3,000 college students who turned out for College Scholarship Day. Winners of the 10 $1,000 scholarships and 10 video iPods came from, among other places, Clemson University, the University of Alabama, the University of South Carolina, the University of Kentucky and Centre College in Danville.
Keeneland will conduct the first of two "Preview Days" for its upcoming April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Times Squared, winner of the fifth race Friday, was the $1.05 million sales topper at last year's auction.
