Gulfport Yacht Club will host Sutter/Alfonso Regatta Sunday

The Coast Sailing season gets underway this weekend.

The Gulfport Yacht Club will host the Sutter/Alfonso Regatta and the US Sailing District 14 Laser/Laser Radial Championships on Sunday. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Sunday, followed by the Skippers Meeting at 9:30. The first race starts at 11 a.m. The awards presentation will be held at 4 p.m.

This regatta is open to the following One Design classes: Laser and Laser Radial, Optimist (green,red, white and blue fleets), Club 420 and Sunfish.

The races were originally scheduled for Saturday, but postponed to Sunday because of severe weather. Sailors will only race on Sunday.

The GYC has also rescheduled its Opening Day festivities to 9 a.m. Sunday. Events include a Flag Raising Ceremony and a Boat Parade/Fleet Blessing.

Sailors from Texas to Florida are registered and are expected to attend the event.

GYC Sailing Director Sam Vasquez anticipates a strong year for the club.
