Floods suspend hunting in George, Jackson counties

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks announced this week that high water had forced the suspension of hunting at Pascagoula WMA in George and Jackson counties, and Ward Bayou WMA in Jackson County.

MDWFP's wildlife bureau director Chad Dacus told MS-Sportsman.com that the areas will remain closed for nearly two weeks. Dacus also said the seasons will resume once the water recedes.

The gun deer season for youth hunters in the Southeast Zone ends Feb. 15. The bag limit on Southeast Zone antlerless deer is one per day not to exceed three per annual season.

Deer hunting season with dogs ends in the Southeast Zone ends Jan. 20.

Early Migratory Game Birds

Dove season for White-winged and Mourning Doves in the South Zone ends on Jan. 15. Dove has a bag Limit of 15 and possession limit of 45.

Crow, Snipe both end Feb. 28. Crow has no daily bag limit nor a posession limit. Snipe has a bag Limit of 8 and possession limit of 24.

Woodcock ends on Jan. 31 and has a bag limit of three and possession limit of nine.

Small Game

Fall Squirrel, Rabbit, Oppossum, Raccoon and Bobcat Quail all conclude on Feb. 28. Bobwhite Quail ends March 5. Squirrel, rabbit, oppossum and bobcat quail all have a daily bag limit of eight.

Trapping season ends March 15. Trapping has no limit daily bag limit or possession limit.
