A pair of Coast residents won the Championship Bull Riding challenge this week in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Hurley’s Colby Pepper and Lucedale’s Justin Freeman took first place the CBR Bull Team Challenge and won a prize of $100,000. They also won a Bloomer trainer, cowboy hat and cowboy boots.

“We feel blessed right now,” Pepper said. “We didn’t expect to win it. But to win the bull riding challenge is a life-changer for us. I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life. We’re blessed to have good partners with good bulls.”

Franchise Partner Terry Williams did not make the trip to Cheyenne but helped the young men get started. He is a six-time professional stock contractor of the year in multiple associations.

The trio fell short last year, missing the 2016 CBR World Finals by half a point.

Pepper, 28, explained the process.

“We don’t get on the bulls,” Pepper said. “We provide the bulls for bull riders to get on. We own the bull team franchise. A team of three bulls compete against other bulls just like the riders. It’s a rider competition as well as a bull competition.”
