Drew Brees will not play Sunday for the Saints

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will not play in Sunday's game at Carolina due to his injured right shoulder, head coach Sean Payton announced Friday.

Brees suffered a bruise rotator cuff in last week's 26-19 loss to Tampa Bay in New Orleans.

Luke McCown will get the start for the Saints and rookie Garrett Grayson will serve as his backup.

It will mark the first time that Brees has missed a game due to injury with the Saints.

Brees did not play in the final game of the 2009 season with home field already clinched for the playoffs.

Brees has completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 610 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions this season for the Saints (0-2).
