M-Braves throw one-hitter in 10-0 romp against Shuckers
Three Mississippi Braves pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter as the Biloxi Shuckers fell 10-0 at Trustmark Park in Pearl on Friday night.
The Shuckers were held to just one hit for the first time in club history.
Sean Newcomb (8-7) took a perfect game into the sixth and the Shuckers’ Javier Betancourt broke up it up with a leadoff single.
Newcomb finished with eight strikeouts and one walk in seven innings.
M-Braves starters have allowed one run on three hits and struck out 12 in 15.1 innings through the first two games of the series.
Shuckers pitcher Jon Perrin (0-1) finished his Double-A debut with 10 runs allowed on eight hits in 3.1 innings. The M-Braves (38-28, 72-63) broke the game open with six runs in the fourth for a 10-0 lead.
The Shuckers (31-36, 70-66) must win the final three games of the series and have the Pensacola Blue Wahoos win two more games against the Birmingham Barons in order to still have a shot at making the playoffs.
The regular season ends Monday.
