The honors keep rolling in for the inaugural season of the Biloxi Shuckers.
The Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers was announced as the Minor League Team of the Year by Baseball America on Wednesday.
The Shuckers endured a 54-game road trip to start the season while construction continued on MGM Park in Biloxi. The team finished that long journey with a 33-21 record to be in first place when the Shuckers finally played their first home game, a 5-4 victory over the Mobile BayBears.
The Shuckers claimed the first-half title in the Southern League South Division and came up one game short of winning the Southern League title, losing 4-0 to Chattanooga in game five of the SLCS.
Biloxi finished the regular season with the best record in the Southern League at 78-59.
Biloxi's right-handed ace, Jorge Lopez, was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Year after going 12-5 with a 2.26 ERA. He also earned Brewers Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
Shortstop Orlando Arcia was named the Brewers Minor League Player of the Year after batting .307 with eight homers, 69 RBIs and 37 doubles.
Shuckers manager Carlos Subero was named the Southern League Manager of the Year.
"We had a bunch of great players who went out and gave it everything they've got," Subero said. "Being on the road so many days, and being able to perform, you had a chance to see what they're made of."
The Brewers called up six Shuckers at the end of the season - Lopez, RHP Tyler Wagner, RHP Adrian Houser, RHP Yhonathan Barrios, outfielder Michael Reed and infielder Yadiel Rivera.
The Shuckers will play the Milwaukee Brewers in an exhibition in Biloxi on April 2 and will start the 2016 regular season on April 7 with a home game against the Chattanooga Lookouts.
