BILOXI – Chattanooga snapped a 3-all tie with two runs in the sixth inning as the Lookouts took Game 3 of their Southern League series with the Biloxi Shuckers – 6-5 – Friday night at MGM Park.
Game four of the series is Saturday night at 7:10 p.m.
The start of the game was delayed until 8:51 p.m. due to rain and lightning on Friday night, a delay of one hour and 41 minutes. The 4,482 fans on hand were rewarded as the two teams combined for 23 hits, 14 by the Lookouts.
Shannon Wilkerson’s RBI groundout snapped the tie in the sixth, then Kennys Vargas added a RBI single to left.
The Shuckers loaded the bases in the ninth but were able to produce only two runs.
“We had opportunities but couldn’t come through,’’ Shuckers manager Carlos Subero said. “Unforced errors early led to their runs.’’
D.J. Baxendale (4-2) worked six innings for the pitching win.
Shuckers center fielder Michael Reed threw out two runners at the plate – in the fourth and seventh innings.
Chattanooga jumped to a 1-0 lead on a two-out infield RBI single by Shannon Wilkerson in the top of the second inning.
The Shuckers knotted the game in the bottom of the third. Adam Weisenburger started a one-out rally with a walk. After a fielders choice off the bat of Nick Shaw, Tyrone Taylor reach first when pitcher D.J. Baxendale misplayed a drive up the middle. Then Orlando Arcia ripped a RBI single to left, scoring Shaw, to tie the game.
Chattanooga answered with two runs in the fourth, on a RBI single by Heiker Meneses and a throwing error by third baseman Brandon Macias.
The Shuckers tied the game in their half of the fourth on a RBI single by Josh Fellhauer and a RBI double by Weisenburger.
