The Biloxi Shuckers scored early and often on Saturday night, plating seven runs in the first two innings as they coasted to a 7-2 victory over the Jackson Generals.

Jake Gatewood's first Double-A home run was the biggest blow as Biloxi won their fourth series in a row and moved into a virtual tie for first place pending the result of Jacksonville's game at Mobile.

Gabriel Noriega broke the seal for the Shuckers in the first with a two-out, two-run double with the bases loaded off Alex Young (8-8) to take a 2-0 lead. It was the first of two doubles on the night for the Shuckers utility infielder, who got a rare start at first base.

In the second, Jacob Nottingham led off the frame with a double and came around to score when a hot smash off the bat of Troy Stokes Jr. bounced out of the glove of third baseman Marty Herum for an error. Angel Ortega kept the ball rolling with an RBI single, and Gatewood delivered the big blow with a three-run blast around the left field foul pole to make the score 7-0.

Jon Perrin (5-2) handled his early lead well, allowing four singles and two solo home runs over 6.0 innings for his fourth quality start in his last five appearances. The righty struck out seven and walked just two, exacting revenge against the team that roughed him up for his worst outing of the year back in April.

Josh Uhen pitched two scoreless innings of relief behind Perrin, and Jorge Lopez worked a quiet ninth to close out the Shuckers victory.

With the win, the Shuckers are now 11-4 in August and 14-4 over their last 18 games.

The Shuckers play their series finale against the Generals on Sunday night as Forrest Snow gets the ball for a 6:05 pm start.
