Prep roundup: OLA sweeps Oak Grove; Vancleave knocks off ‘Goula

Our Lady Academy continued its hot streak Tuesday, sweeping Oak Grove 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19). Emma Funk led the Lady Crescents with 18 kills. She also registered four digs and three blocks. Becca Walk had 10 kills and two blocks. Alia Tayara racked up six kills, 12 service points, one ace and four digs. Carsen Cuevas had five digs and Hannah Gest posted a team-high 29 assists in the OLA (13-2) sweep. The loss was Oak Grove’s first of the season for the 12-1 Lady Warriors.

OLA hosts Harrison Central on Thursday. The game was originally scheduled to be played at HCHS.

Vancleave def. Pascagoula 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-8): Sydney Salter led VHS (16-4) with 22 service points and one ace. Cheyenne Strickland had 10 kills and Paige Davis totaled eight digs and nine assists. VHS hosts Gautier on Thursday.

Gulfport def. D’Iberville 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-10): Jayden Bishop led the attack Tuesday for GHS (12-4) with 13 service points, 10 assists and four kills. Aley Woodberry had eight kills. Dywana Parker had 16 points and seven kills, while Presley White chipped in 13 points. GHS hosts Ocean Springs on Thursday.

Ocean Springs def. Biloxi 3-0 (29-27, 25-22, 25-12): Ameila Moore led the OSHS (7-6) attack with nine aces and six kills. Chloe Coulter registered eight kills and five digs. Kaytie Rutland chipped in five kills. Peyton Emperley had 11 assists, three aces and she actually served 16 straight points in Game 3 for the Lady Greyhounds. Abby Murrell rounded out Ocean Springs’ leaders with 10 assists. OSHS visits Gulfport on Thursday.

St. Patrick def. George County 3-2 (16-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-19, 15-12): Hannah D’Aunoy contributed eight service aces and Shannon Kirkpatrick had five. Rosalyn Lindsey led St. Patrick with 26 assists and Raven Gonsoulin had 14. The Lady Irish (1-4) will host George County on Sept. 6.

Other scores: Resurrection swept St. Martin 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-17.

Monday: Gulfport defeated Bay High 3-0 (25-7, 25-23, 25-12) on Monday night. Nikki Hankins had 12 points and 10 assists for GHS. White had a team-high 13 points, while Bishop chipped in 12 points and eight assists. Taylor Wallace racked up eight digs and nine points. Maison Larmore led the Lady Admirals with seven kills.

Slow-pitch softball

Harrison Central 13, Biloxi 3: Kayla Cade hit a grans slam for HCHS (7-1, 1-0) and also earned the win. Amari Ramsey hit a triple and had three RBIs. Jhericka Strickland had three hits including a double. Janyiah Pittman also had three hits.
