Long Beach can’t hold onto early lead
Long Beach led South Jones early on Friday, but the Bearcats couldn’t keep pace and eventually lost 25-13.
“We really controlled the first half,” LBHS coach Forrest Williams said of his team’s early 13-0 lead.
Jaylen Bankston scored on a 12-yard run to open the scoring and Cade Crosby then connected with Tony Young for an 8-yard score.
Long Beach (0-2) held a 13-9 lead going into halftime, but South Jones capitalized on several special teams and miscues to pull ahead.
“I thought we did a solid job all night defensively,” Williams said. “We’re just looking to battle adversity and hunker down and eliminate mistakes each week.”
Long Beach will visit No. 1 St. Stanislaus next Friday.
