So much for a smooth start to the high school football season.

Due to heavy rains across South Mississippi over the last 24 hours, two jamborees Friday have already been called off, with other games taking a wait-and-see approach until morning.

George County coach Matt Caldwell said their two games — Vancleave vs. Perry Central and GCHS vs. Wayne County — have been canceled due to the weather.

Poplarville was originally supposed to host Biloxi, but the Indians are now hosting the game. BHS coach Bobby Hall said the Indians and Hornets are still set to clash, with junior varsity kicking things off at 6 p.m.

New West Harrison coach Tracy Rogers said the Hurricanes’ game against Sumrall at Lumberton is in limbo. WHHS could end up hosting Sumrall, but they won’t make a final decision until Friday morning.

As of press time, D’Iberville at Wingfield, Long Beach at Pass Christian and Moss Point at Hancock are still scheduled for 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. starts respectively.
