Dylan Favre’s record-setting rookie season comes to an end
It’s easiest to say Dylan Favre just does Favre things.
His college career didn’t go as planned after winning a Class 4A state championship with St. Stanislaus, but Favre seems to have found a home in the Indoor Football League with the Cedar Rapids Titans.
All Favre did as a rookie this year was lead the Titans to a franchise best 12-4 regular season record and a berth in the United Conference’s championship game last Saturday night.
Although the Titan’s season came to a close at the hands of the seven-time reigning United Conference champion Sioux Falls Storm on Saturday, it’s clear Favre belongs in the IFL.
Like his Pro Football Hall of Fame uncle, Brett Favre, Dylan has a flair for the dramatic and is not averse to taking chances. Favre’s 2,483 regular season passing yards ranked fifth in the IFL and were a Titans record. His 50 touchdowns, also a Titans high, ranked sixth. And his 19 interceptions were the IFL’s second-highest mark. He proved to be one of the better playmakers in the league, however, rushing for 448 yards and 18 touchdowns. Both marks among the league’s best.
In order to advance to Saturday’s game, Cedar Falls routed the Wichita Falls Nighthawks 66-36 in the United Conference wild card playoff game July 10 thanks to six passing touchdowns and another rushing score from Favre. He also threw for 235 yards and rushed for 56 more.
“Early on, it was really everything we called,” Favre told Douglas Miles of the Cedar Rapids Gazette. “It’s always about execution. It’s not about what’s working and what’s not working. It’s about what you make work. Everything was working in the first half.”
Favre took a hit in Saturday’s 54-28 loss to the IFL powerhouse. While he threw for 267 yards and a touchdown, Favre was also intercepted three times.
With the win, Sioux Falls stamped its ticket to yet another IFL’s United Bowl, which is the league’s Super Bowl.
