Harrison Central softball star earns All-American selection
No softball player on the Coast was better at getting on base than Harrison Central's Simone McKinney in 2016, and that ability has helped earn her an All-American selection.
McKinney landed a spot on the 2016 CBS MaxPreps All-American Second Team, serving as the only Mississippi representative on the first and second teams.
The outfielder had an outstanding senior campaign for the Red Rebelettes in 2016, batting .605 in 31 games. She had an on-base percentage of .619 and accounted for 21 stolen bases in 23 tries.
McKinney also led the three-time Class 6A state champions in runs scored with 45.
McKinney had three hits to lead the Lady Rebelettes in the 7-1 win over South Panola on May 13 to clinch the 6A state championship in Ridgeland.
The speedy McKinney, who was named to the Sun Herald All-South Mississippi Team, will continue her softball career at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville.
