Harrison Central senior Simone McKinney and George County senior Kyle Whittington are the Sun Herald Players of the Week due to their postseason heroics.
McKinney, a senior center fielder, is the Girls Player of the Week after helping lead the Harrison Central softball team to its third Class 6A consecutive state championship by sweeping South Panola in Ridgeland.
McKinney was a combined 6-for-8 with three stolen bases and four runs scored in the series.
McKinney batted .594 this season for Harrison Central (28-4).
Whittington is the Boys Player of the Week after showing up on the pitcher's mound and at the plate as George County (21-7) swept Petal in the Class 6A South State baseball series.
Whittington was 1-for-2 with two runs scored in the 7-2 win over Petal in game one and 2-for-4 with an RBI in a 5-1 eight-inning win over Petal in game two. He was also outstanding on the mound in game two, throwing six scoreless innings with just one hit allowed. The right-hander struck out four and walked two.
Whittington (5-0) has allowed only one earned run in 45 1/3 innings this season for an ERA of 0.15.
