Prep Roundup: Harrison Central races past St. Martin in 6A Softball
After a rough first two innings, Harrison Central pitcher Madison Burge settled in, leading the Red Rebelettes to a 5-1 win over St. Martin in the 6ASouth State finals.
The Red Rebelettes (25-4) are a win away from playing for their third straight 6A state title. The Red Rebelettes host Games 2 and 3 at 5 p.m. Saturday.
St. Martin (17-8) drew first blood when Emily Stansbury singled in Deona Morgan, who led off with a double.
Harrison Central scored three in the fourth and two in the sixth. Simone McKinney had two hits and both sixth-inning RBIs to pace Harrison Central. Zharia Richardson added a double, with Ashley Arnold and Daijha Richardson getting RBI singles.
West Harrison 6, Pearl River Central 3: The Lady Hurricanes overcame a 3-1 deficit to take Game 1 of their 5A South State series. Rebecca Cuevas hit a three-run homer and Sydney-Brooke Sims added a two-run double. Stephanie Necaise got the win, striking out seven. The two teams play Saturday at 2 p.m. at West Harrison.
Philadelphia 7, St. Patrick 6: The Lady Irish (28-3) led 3-0 but Philadelphia stormed back to win Game 1 of their 3A South State series. St. Patrick must win twice Saturday at 4 p.m. in Games 2 and 3 to keep its season alive.
