Prep Roundup: OLA takes second at Class I golf championships

Our Lady Academy's golf team completed a successful season Tuesday with a second place finish in the Class I State Championship, hosted at The Bridges Golf Club in Bay St. Louis.

OLA shot a 362, just behind winner Nettleton (348). St. Patrick shot a 492. OLA's Callee Breland placed third with a score of 167. Teammate Kati Albright placed fifth with a score of 195. Gabby Zimmerman also shot a 245 for OLA.

Tennis

OLA/SSC falls to Newton County: The Our Lady Academy/St. Stanislaus joint tennis team (13-3) fell to Newton County in the South State finals Tuesday, 6-1. The lone win came from James Estrada in boys singles. Estrada, Mitchell Walk, Madison Wawrek, Laura Grace Ritten, Grace Nicaud, Thomas Healy, Jacob Estrada and Paige Palazzo all qualified for the individual tournament in Oxford, May 9-11.

Softball

PRC advances: Pearl River Central advanced to the Class 5A South State series with a 3-2 win over Long Beach on Tuesday. PRC will now face West Harrison.

West Harrison tops Brookhaven: WHHS (17-14) fell in Game 2 5-1 to open Tuesday, but the Lady Hurricanes rallied to knock off visiting Brookhaven with a 6-4 final. WHHS will face PRC in the 5A South State series.

St. Martin takes Game 1: The Lady Yellow Jackets topped Oak Grove 4-1 in Game 1. Megan Beaugez broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth with a solo homer. Emily Stansbury's RBI-single in the fifth extended St. Martin's lead. Beaugez added to the home team's lead with a two-run single in the fifth. Rebecca Anderson struck out seven in the win. The Class 6A series now heads to Oak Grove Wednesday. Game 2 is set for a 6 p.m. start. Game 3, if necessary, will be immediately after.

Harrison Central rallies past Brandon: Kristen Cade threw a two hitter as two-time defending Class 6A fastpitch champion Harrison Central evened their second-round series with Brandon on Tuesday, beating the Bulldogs 9-0.

HCHS claimed Game 3 7-2 to advance to 6A South State. The Bulldogs opened at home with a 2-1 win Monday. Cade was dominant, allowing just four base runners while striking out seven hitters. Brandon's best scoring chance came in the fourth when Amber Pack and McCall Lee had back-to-back singles. Cade got out of the inning, inducing a grounder to the shortstop.

The Red Rebelettes broke the game open with three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. Madison Burge was 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and two walks in the win. Simone McKinney added two singles and an RBI.

Baseball

St. Patrick 4, Southeast Lauderdale 3: After dropping the first game of the day 10-9, St. Patrick rallied to win the decisive third game Tuesday 4-3. Peter Holland earned the win. Josh Wood was 3-for-4 with a double. Spencer Sliman was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Blaise Butirich was 3-for-3 with an RBI. St. Patrick (16-7) advances to face the winner of St. Andrews in the third round of the Class 3A playoffs.
