The St. Martin girls golf team heads into the final day of competition at the Class III state tournament in first place at The Oaks Golf Club in Pass Christian.
After putting up a team score of 162 on Monday, the Lady Yellow Jackets hold a four-stroke advantage on second-place Madison Central.
St. Martin has finished in second place the last two seasons, but will be the favorite when it takes the course Tuesday.
Sydney Cato shot an 80 and Jordan Wescovich registered an 82.
"We knew we had a real good chance coming in this year," St. Martin coach Brandon Laird said. "That's been our goal whole year. They're just trying not to think about the overall picture and focus on what's in front of you."
Tee times begin at 7 a.m. Tuesday in Pass Christian.
George County 15, Pearl 0: The Rebels finished off the two-game sweep to advance in the Class 6A state baseball playoffs. Monday's game lasted only 4 1/2-innings. George County (18-7) will play the winner of Brandon-Gulfport in the next round.
Hattiesburg 2, Long Beach 0: The Tigers picked up the shutout win to advance to the third round of the Class 5A state baseball playoffs. Sophomore Dexter Jordan pitched a complete-game shutout . He gave up four hits, struck out five and walked none. Long Beach's season comes to a close with a record of 14-15.
Petal 2, Harrison Central 0: The Panthers swept the Class 6A state baseball series to advance. The Red Rebels end their season with a 13-10 mark.
Pearl River Central 4, Long Beach 3: The Lady Blue Devils picked up the victory in game one of the Class 5A second-round series in Long Beach. The two teams play at 6 p.m. in Carriere in game two. Game three will follow, if necessary.
Brandon 2, Harrison Central 1: The Lady Bulldogs picked up the victory in game one of a Class 6A softball series. The two teams play game two at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Harrison Central. Game three will follow, if necessary.
West Harrison 7, Brookhaven 4: The Lady Hurricanes scored four runs in the first and held on for the victory in the game one of a Class 5A softball series. Jada Walker, Lauren Jackson, Rebecca Cuevas and Bailey Street all had multiple hits for West Harrison. Stephanie Necaise earned the win and And Anna Necaise took the save. The two teams will play game two at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at West Harrison. Game three will follow, if necessary.
