Prep Roundup: George County blanks Pearl
Walker Robbins threw a one-hitter and struck out nine as George County beat Pearl 4-0 in Game one of their Class 6A second-round series on Friday. West Whittington supplied the power with a solo homer. Logan Tanner also had two hits for GCHS (16-7). The Rebels go for a series sweep at Pearl at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Newton County 5, Bay High 1: The Tigers were held to five singles in game one of the Class 4A second round series. Dustin Davis, who threw 4 2/3 innings, took the loss. Matt Elders picked up the win for Newton County.
St Patrick 6, SE Lauderdale 4: Peter Holland was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts for the Fighting Irish. Brennan Gioe had two hits, including a homer Spencer Sliman led the way with three hits. Josh Wood had two hits.
West Harrison 7, Pearl River Central 2: Aided by a six-run fifth inning, West Harrison (21-6) earned its program's first ever playoff win Friday night. Kasey Donaldson struck out 10 in the complete-game win against PRC (19-8).
Softball
St. Patrick 7, Choctaw Central 0: Raylen Blackwell hit a grand slam as the Lady Irish closed their 3A second-round playoff series with a sweep on Friday. Anna D'Aquilla (14-1) got the win for St. Patrick (25-1).
Harrison Central 6, Ocean Springs 5: Desiree Lindsey had three hits and two RBI as the Red Rebelettes prevailed in nine innings. Madison Burge had three hits. Zhara Richardson added a two-run single, Jheri Strickland had two hits. Christian Cade got the win. Harrison Central travels to Brandon in third-round action on Monday.
