Biloxi track athlete Jimmy Erwin and Hannah Hembree of Pascagoula are the Sun Herald Players of the Week following impressive individual performances.
Erwin is the Boys Player of the Week after he was named MVP at the District 8-6A track meet. He earned 24 first-place votes to help the Indians with the district championship.
Erwin took first place in the 3,200-, 1,600- and 800-meter runs. He also ran the first leg of the 3,200-meter relay.
The senior holds Biloxi school records in the 1,600-meter and 800-meter runs as well as the 4 x 800-meter relay.
Pascagoula junior Hannah Hembree is the Girls Player of the Week following a big day at the plate in the Lady Panthers' 16-1 win over Natchez on Saturday. Hembree was 3-for-3 and drove in five runs.
Hembree's biggest hit of the day was a 3-run home run.
