Prep Roundup: Bay High nips Columbia in 4A series opener

Dustin Davis tossed a two-hitter as Bay High beat Columbia 3-2 on Friday to take game one of their 4A playoff series. Tyler Strong had two hits for the Tigers.

SOFTBALL

Picayune 1, West Jones 0: Elizabeth Taggard scored the game's lone run on a single by pitcher Megan Dudenhefer. Lexie Picou led the Lady Tide (14-10) with two hits. Dudenhefer (9-4) struck out 11 against three hits.

East Central 16 Florence 3: Madie Sparks (10-2) tossed a two-hitter as the Lady Hornets won their 4A state playoff series opener. Madison Wall had 4 hits, including a homer.

Ocean Springs sweeps: The Lady Greyhounds swept Meridian 17-2 and 7-4 in their 6A series opener, advancing to the second round next week.

BASEBALL

Bay High 3, Columbia 2: Dustin Davis tossed a two-hitter as the Tigers took game one of their 4A playoff series. Tyler Strong had two hits.

Long Beach 24, Natchez 3: Long Beach recorded 17 hits and Justin Lockey earned the win in the Class 5A first-round matchup. Tyler Allen hit a grand slam.

Gulfport 10, Jim Hill 0: Dillon Brown, Blake Johnson, Gage Clark and CJ Keckler had two hits each. Alex Nelms and Patrick Nelms combined on the mound to shutout Jim Hill. Castor Lee, Keckler and Clark each had two RBI.

FCAHS 4, St. Stanislaus 2: Despite four hits from Luke Bradley and Brendan Logan's two hits, the Rockachaws dropped their playoff series opener. Luke Bradley struck out six and allowed three hits, Ryan Pitalo took the loss in relief. St. Stanislaus must win at FCAHS at 6 p.m. Saturday to force a decisive third game.

Oak Grove 7, Ocean Springs 1: Drew Boyd struck out 15 batters for the Warriors in game one of their 6A playoff series.

Stone 5, West Jones 2: Tristan parker got the win, Hunter Clark with the save for the Tomcats. Hayden Harrell hit a homer, Nathan Hunt added two RBI.
