Prep, JuCo roundup: Morgan's walk-off homer lifts Harrison Central to 1-0 win over Gulfport in 12

Dillon Morgan hit a walk-off homer to left center in the 12th inning to give Harrison Central the dramatic 1-0 victory in Lyman Tuesday night.

Jordan Harris pitched 10 scoreless innings for Harrison Central, striking out four, giving up four hits and walking one.

Clay Counts earned the win for Harrison Central (10-6, 4-3). Tramone McNeal had three hits for the Red Rebels, including a double.

Gulfport starting pitcher Alex Nelms gave up five hits and struck out 14 in nine innings.

George County 3, St. Martin 2: Isaac Williams was 2-for-3 at the plate for St. Martin, but it wasn't enough to upset the Sun Herald's No. 1 team.

Bay High 6, Moss Point 2: Dustin Davis pitched a complete game and Cade Compretta was 3 for 3 with three singles and three RBIs for the Tigers (11-6, 5-2).

Stone 14, FCAHS 6: Preston Stringer and Truitt Smith each had three hits and three RBI as the Tomcats (9-8) prevailed on Wednesday. Steven Hartfield added two hits and pair of RBI, Miles Allison had two RBI for Stone. Tyler Cobb got the win.

Softball

Long Beach 3, West Harrison 2: Krystal Goodman and Ashton Holloway combined to toss a four-hitter while striking out nine batters for Long Beach (8-6, 3-0). Kaitlynn McGoey was 2-for-3 with a double and Faith Peterson also had a 2-for-3 night at the plate.

Pass Christian 6, East Central 4: Pass Christian picked up the victory thanks to a two-run walk-off home run by Brooke Roach. Amber Funderburk (7-4) gave up five hits and struck out six to earn the win. Ilyssa Easton (4-3) was the losing pitcher and Kayla Collins had a pair of doubles for the Hornets (10-3).

St. Patrick 13, West Marion 1: Morgan Redmond (6-0) picked up the win in a game that lasted only four innings. Raven Blackwell went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Anna D'Aquilla was 2-for-2 for the Irish (14-0, 4-0).

Moss Point 11, Vancleave 7: The Lady Tigers pounded out 12 hits to pick up the victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

Tennis

Biloxi squeaked out a 4-3 victory over visiting George County in tennis Tuesday night.

Biloxi's Jacob Butera beat Ben Taylor 6-0 and 6-1 in the in the boys singles match. Naomi Taylor of George County won the girls singles match by the score of 6-1, 6-3.

Amis McMillan and Esmond Tang combined to take the No. 1 boys doubles match and Biloxi's No. 2 doubles team of Matthew Lodge and Logan winner also won.

The George County girls doubles team of Nicolle Stanfill and Laysen Landrum won in the No. 1 match while Biloxi's No. 2 girls doubles team of Tatianna Houghton and Ella Mitchell pulled out the win.

George County claimed the mixed doubles match with Jaden Scott and Grant Eubanks winning.

Biloxi's regular season play ends at 4 p.m. Friday with a home match against Hancock.

JuCo softball

No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast CC softball went on the road and swept No. 4 East Central on Tuesday in Decatur.

The Lady Bulldogs exploded for five runs in the eighth to win 6-1 in Game 1. The offense carried over into the first inning of the nightcap, where they put four on the board in the first on the way to a 9-2 win.

"It speaks a lot for our team that we can go on the road and play a solid team and play like we did," Gulf Coast coach Kenneth Long. "I'm really, really proud of them."

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 33-3, 17-3 MACJC and stay one game back of first-place Jones.

The Lady Warriors' plight illustrates the danger of dropping games at the top of a competitive MACJC race. They fell to 32-7, 16-6 and dropped from third to fifth behind Itawamba and Copiah-Lincoln.
