Biloxi's Shaffer, Goodman of Long Beach named Sun Herald Players of the Week

Biloxi right-hander Trey Shaffer and Long Beach softball star Krystal Goodman are the Sun Herald Players of the Week following outstanding pitching performances.

Shaffer struck out 15, walked three and gave up four hits in a 6-2 win at Gulfport last week.

Shaffer also went 8-for-14 at the plate with at least one hit in all four of Gulfport's games a week ago.

Shaffer is 4-0 with 1.63 ERA in six appearances this season for the Indians (9-9, 3-3).

Goodman threw a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Gautier last week. She struck out 10 and issued just one walk in the victory. She also helped herself at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

In Long Beach's 12-3 win over Stone on Saturday, Goodman hit a homer and knocked in two runs.

Goodman is 3-0 with an 0.47 ERA in nine appearances this season for Long Beach (6-6, 1-0). She is also batting .355 with a homer and 11 RBIs.
