Coast roundup: St. Stanislaus golf team picks up 3rd major win

The St. Stanislaus golf team won its third major golf tournament this season Tuesday, claiming the West Jones High School Invitational at Timberton Country Club in Hattiesburg. The victory was St. Stanislaus' 10th major win since the tournaments began four years ago. SSC shot 324, while tournament host West Jones shot 325 and George County finished in third place with 326. Patrick Powers lead the Rockachaws with a 78; Vincent Almerico 79, Matthew Saucier 82, Penn St. Paul 85 and Walker Montjoy shot 87 in the winning effort. Low medalist in the tournament was Cy Smith from George County with a 74. Balance of all-tournament team included Noah Parnell from Vancleave and Powers. The Rockachaws play next in the Admiral Invitational at Great Southern on April 5.


Our Lady Academy 10, Resurrection 0: Dallas Blaker (4-5) picked up the win, allowing one hit with 12 strikeouts in six innings. Grace Koons had two hits with three RBIs. Morgan Ulrich had three hits with one RBI. OLA (4-5, 2-0) hosts Richton on Thursday.

St. Martin 8, Ocean Springs 4: Katelyn Gruich hit her first homer of the season Tuesday to help lead St. Martin (7-5, 1-0) to victory. Rebecca Anderson struck out six in the winning effort. Katelynn Carcich had three hits and an RBI, and Savannah Harris had two hits with an RBI.

Pearl River Central 3 Biloxi 2: Katherine Patterson had a two-run double for Biloxi (5-3-1)but it wasn't enough Monday. Olivia Holley (5-2) allowed three unearned runs to take the loss, but struck out seven.

Pascagoula 18, Our Lady Academy 10: Pascagoula's Hannah Hembree hit for the cycle Monday night, registering a single, double, triple and homer in succession. Freshman Madelynn Parrish earned the win for 'Goula (2-4).

St. Patrick 20, Perry Central 3: Anna D'Aquilla (5-0) earned the win, striking out 13 in five innings for St. Patrick (8-0). D'Aquilla also went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Emma Rae Castanedo hit a three-run homer and Elizabeth Zorich and Olivia Allen both hit grand slams. Raven Blackwell went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

Harrison Central 4, St. Martin 2: Jordan Harris (4-0) earned the win, striking out seven in six innings. Brendan Hardy had two hits, including a double, and Mason Saucier had two RBIs for HCHS (8-3, 2-1).

East Central 3, St. Stanislaus 1: Dy Hall (2-1) earned the win for ECHS (5-5, 2-1), striking out nine while allowing one earned run on five hits. Reis Trager and Jacob Vick each went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Brad Cumbest hit a single and double with two RBIs. Levi Knight took the loss for SSC, allowing four hits while striking out five. Luke Bradley had two hits to lead SSC (6-5, 2-1).

Bay 10, Pass Christian 2: Dustin Davis (4-1) earned the complete game win, striking out five. Tristan Hopgood led Bay (7-3, 3-0) with three hits. Addison Goscinski had two hits.

Gulfport 2, George County 0: Alex Nelms threw a one-hit shutout for the Admirals (7-3, 1-1) after retiring the first 18 batters. George County fell to 6-4, 1-2. Walker Robbins took the loss for the Rebels, allowing four hits. Blake Johnson recorded the only RBI in the game on an infield single.

Long Beach 3, Pascagoula 2: Long Beach's Josh Borzik struck out five and also hit an RBI-double to lead Long Beach (5-5, 1-0) on Tuesday. Dylan Bursell hit a single and a double. Cody Crosby had two hits.

West Harrison 5, Gautier 0: Dylan Cagle picked up the win for WHHS (7-2, 1-0) on Tuesday, striking out five. Colby Cagle, Kasey Donaldson, Tyler Van Norman, Lawson Capers and Taylor Woodcock each had hits in the win.

D'Iberville 4, Hancock 2: Andrew Bird (3-1) struck out eight to earn the win on Tuesday. Luther Woullard led D'Iberville with a 2-for-3 effort that included a double and RBI. Nathan Yennie hit a double and scored a run. Bird was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Austin Knue was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Brendan Hoda (2-2) took the loss for Hancock. He also had an RBI. Chase Cuevas led HHS with a 2-for-3 showing. Chase Winbrow had a double for the Hawks.


OLA/SSC tennis 4, Resurrection 3: The St. Stanislaus/Our Lady Academy tennis team defeated Resurrection 4-3 on Tuesday to improve to 6-0 this season. Jacob Estrada and Thomas Healy won boys doubles, Hunner Drake won boys singles and Mitchell Walk, James Estrada and Dustin Bosch all lost tough matches at doubles. Hayden Henry won at girls singles, Madison Wawrek and Paige Palazzo won at girls doubles while Laura Grace Ritten, Claire Escher and Grace Nicaud all lost tough doubles matches.

MGCCC tennis sweeps Holmes: Gulf Coast's tennis teams swept Holmes in Goodman on Tuesday. The girls won 9-0 and the No. 18 boys won 8-1. The women (5-2) dropped only three games in the doubles matches. Lexi Johnson won the No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0, as did Anna Stevison at No. 5 singles. The Bulldogs improved to 6-1 on the season. Three singles players won 6-0, 6-0: No. 2 Sam Blackburn, No. 5 Chris Diep and No. 6 Brennan O'Keefe.
